    single-story house

    10' cielings

top-double plate in the walls at 8', wtf?

I'm guessing its eithe load bearing or shearwall? Studs went from there, through the rafters and into the roof.

Made installing in-wall speakers fun tonight...along with the crown

is the whole house 10' ceilings? Code I believe is 10' max for 2x4 and 12' requires 2x6. You can do what you are talking about if a topplate is put at say 9' and then have a 3' wall on top to meet code. I dunno why the would do that unless there is some weird code where you live.....If the hole house is not 10' I was thinking it wa part of a larger wall they tilted up and for some reason just added 2'

    ummm i must have moved

there is a "box" where it drops down in 1 corner, so maybe the roof goes all the way down and sits on it at the end at 8'ish. I'm guessing that's what it was now that i think about it. I couldnt figure out why it was taking so long to drill through until i stuck my finger in there and realized it was doubled up (and i was drilling into the stud above)

I just thought it was some wierd shear wall crap at first.
